Weed in Daegu, South Korea: my experience

Hi, smokers! You probably know that cannabis laws and regulations vary from one county to another, so let’s go deeper and try to understand what is going on with weed in Daegu. I have just finished my trip to Daegu, stayed there for 10 days, now got back home, writing this post while memory is fresh and with a solid joint in my left hand. As a regular weed smoker I could not imagine my stay in Daegu without having some weed in my pocket. Below I will outline information I found out while looking for some good smelly green buds in Daegu.

You can probably guess that distribution of non-medical cannabis is strictly forbidden and regulated by laws of South Korea, so you can not purchase high THC weed in some official shops like you may do in the Netherlands for example.

On my very first day in Daegu I got acquainted with Joe who has lived here for 3 years already and who is also a regular cannabis smoker. He shared a joint with me and told some stories. As he told that despite non-medical weed being prohibited - cops are relaxed and calm in everything related to cannabis, with some rare exceptions.

What if I get caught with marijuana in Daegu?

In fact, according to Joe - if you have less than 10g of weed or 5g of hash and behave correctly + do not smoke joints in public - nothing critical should happen. Cops will check if you are not intending to sell the stuff being a real dealer, they should just confiscate weed after a short talk.

People say sometimes police officers try to get some material benefits from catching you with weed in Daegu. These stories are rare, but mind that some cops may force you giving them some money to leave you alone. But never try to offer them anything yourself, this may be treated as a separate crime. Easier just to watch your back not not get caught with weed in Daegu.

So where do smokers purchase weed in Daegu?

Despite the fact that I did not have any problems with weed in Daegu because of Joe, he told me how everything works (and not only with cannabis).

Usually high-level dealers purchase stuff on wholesale darknet websites. Theoretically you may also go through all the nightmare of using darknet websites to get your stuff delivered in several days or even weeks. If you are just having a short vacation or a trip to Daegu - purchasing weed via wholesale darknet websites is not an option. This was a surprise for me cause I am more old school and just “heard something about crypto”. I think dealers are losing money anyway because not all clients know crypto, but Joe commented that nowadays if you do not use crypto - you 100% have a friend who uses it, so you may just send him money from card and he does crypto transaction for you. After that I remembered I also have such a friend, so I agreed with Joe.

Local attitude towards weed and cannabis in Daegu

Although only medical cannabis is allowed in Daegu, the locals are absolutely ok with the smokers. Local dealers have big cash from the students and tourists, so they are their weed target audiences in Daegu. You shouldn't allow yourself to smoke anywhere, for example in bars, but nobody is surprised if you get caught smoking weed in a secluded corner of the street.

One more interesting fact from my new friend Joe - even some cops in Daegu prefer smoking weed over drinking strong. So as I understood Daegu is a good place for smokers of marijuana because of the light atmosphere, but all the same the best rule is not to be caught with weed in Daegu 😉.

The overall attitude of locals to weed is rather relaxed, so you may even feel yourself home in Daegu after one good joint, telling this from my own experience. Joe shared with me a joint of simply perfect sativa (while he did not know the exact strain). We were smoking outside the bar, and saw other guys doing the same on the other side of the street 😁 So I can definitely say that smoking weed is rather popular in Daegu.

I’ve asked Joe if he may share contacts of his dealer, cause stuff was out of this world. He told me that his exact dealer does not work with new people, so he will be my dealer during my vacation, which was simply perfect. I wish everyone to find your own Joe in some bar of Daegu.

Prices vary from dealer to dealer and usually depend on stuff quality and dealer’s greediness 😂From what I saw - super high quality weed may go up to $20 - $25 per 1 gram (while the more you buy - the lower price you get), and high quality hash was around $30-$35 per 1 gram. Have not purchased low quality weed in Daegu so do not know the prices, but should be lower.
