Buds and weed in Dhaka, Bangladesh - my impression

Hello dear rasta audience🤝Want to tell my story about adventures with weed in Dhaka, with some stories of local inhabitant.

You are probably aware that marijuana laws are different in different places. This article should shed light on cannabis regulations in Dhaka, what do local people and cops think about weed, hash availability, pricing, my own experience etc.

Just finished my vacation, stayed 2 weeks in Dhaka, and as a heavy weed smoker I can't imagine a vacation without some sativa joint during the day and indica buds with some beer before heading to sleep. Below you will find info on what I found out while searching for tasty non-medical weed in Dhaka.

Cannabis laws in Dhaka, Bangladesh

You can probably guess that distribution of non-medical cannabis is strictly forbidden and regulated by laws of Bangladesh, so you can not purchase high THC weed in some official shops like you may do in the Netherlands for example.

On my very first day in Dhaka I got acquainted with John who has lived here for 3 years already and who is also a regular cannabis smoker. He shared a joint with me and told some stories. As he told that despite non-medical weed being prohibited - cops are relaxed and calm in everything related to cannabis, with some rare exceptions.

What if I get caught with weed in Dhaka?

In practice, as John said - if you are 18+ and carry less than 20 grams of weed or 10 grams of hash and do not smoke in public - you should not expect any arrest. As a maximum, cops will confiscate your stuff after they ensure you are not a dealer who delivers stuff.

There are some stories about occasional cops forcing people to give them a bribe after catching someone with weed, but such cases are rare. Usually cops do not touch foreign tourists who are spending their vacation or business trip in Dhaka and bring money to Bangladesh.

Where can one acquire cannabis in Dhaka?

Although I personally didn't face any issues with obtaining cannabis in Dhaka thanks to John, he did enlighten me about the process (and not just related to cannabis).

Typically, higher-level dealers procure their inventory from wholesale darknet websites. In theory, you could navigate the complexities of using darknet platforms to have your order delivered in a matter of days or even weeks. The website thehiddenwiki.com provides all the necessary links to make purchases in the darknet using the Tor browser and cryptocurrencies. However, this method is generally more suitable for those seeking larger quantities and have the luxury of time (several days) for delivery.

But if you have a short trip to Dhaka or vacation + need not too much weed and right now - only small local dealers may help you. Walking dark streets in a search for a strange-looking person who will sell you something that looks like weed for cash is still an option, but this is not the best way to spend time in Dhaka and does not guarantee you any success. Today almost all dealers went online already, so they arrange the delivery of stuff after taking crypto instead of cash. They try to avoid meetings in person so you just select the approximate drop off point, and get a photo where exactly to take your stuff after the delivery. Stuff is usually masked and looks not suspicious (may be a pack of juice or cigarettes you just take and continue walking).

I was surprised, really. Looks like I am too oldschool already - thought cash rules the world. While nowadays you may anonymously exchange crypto to cash - so for all illegal payments this became option #1. So now the dealing process looks like this - you find some messenger contacts of a local dealer (ask google or local barman), contact him and choose what you want to order, pay in crypto and get your stuff delivered to some pre-selected place (that may be your hotel). Personal meetings are something dealers try to avoid - so weed is usually dropped at some approximate point you firstly discuss, and you get photo and GPS coordinates where to take your package after delivery.

Attitude of locals to cannabis in Dhaka

Even though high THC cannabis is strictly regulated in Dhaka - local inhabitants of Dhaka are not against it at all. Young people and tourists are top target audiences for weed dealers. This does not mean you may walk and smoke joints on the streets, but also no one will be too surprised seeing someone smoking weed.

As John told - even local cops in Dhaka sometimes use cannabis. So in general we may conclude that the atmosphere in Dhaka is relaxed when we speak about cannabis. Just behave correctly and watch your back - and everything should be cool.

So, then John shared the small joint of a new hemp variety, thanks to him, it was the exact thing I needed. We got some portions of tasty beer and we were a little bit drunk, so we decided not to go far. We started smoking on the street straight near my hostel and it seemed that on the next street some guys were doing the same.

I was thankful to John for one joint, but I wanted to find a regular supplier for all my vacation in Dhaka . So I begged John to share the name of his provider of weed with me. He declined it, because his friend didn't cooperate with the tourists, only with locals. I was persistent, so at the end of the evening and the couple of beers, he agreed to be the dealer of marijuana for me. All my goals connected with good rest were solved, thanks to John!
