Cannabis in New Delhi, India - my story

Hi there, hustlers 🤝Welcome to my longread about weed in New Delhi, done from my own experience plus some local stories.

As you all know cannabis regulations differ in different countries, so the point of this article is to cover marijuana laws in New Delhi, attitude of police and local inhabitants, weed VS hash availability and price range, my own experience related to weed in New Delhi.

My trip to New Delhi is over, these 10 days were perfect, so while memory is fresh I decided to write this post, who knows may be useful to someone. Being a regular cannabis smoker I could not imagine my stay in New Delhi without some daily joints. So from the very first day of my stay I started looking for weed…

Local attitude towards weed and cannabis in New Delhi

Although only medical cannabis is allowed in New Delhi, the locals are absolutely ok with the smokers. Local dealers have big cash from the students and tourists, so they are their weed target audiences in New Delhi. You shouldn't allow yourself to smoke anywhere, for example in bars, but nobody is surprised if you get caught smoking weed in a secluded corner of the street.

One more interesting fact from my new friend Simon - even some cops in New Delhi prefer smoking weed over drinking strong. So as I understood New Delhi is a good place for smokers of marijuana because of the light atmosphere, but all the same the best rule is not to be caught with weed in New Delhi 😉.

So, then Simon shared the small joint of a new hemp variety, thanks to him, it was the exact thing I needed. We got some portions of tasty beer and we were a little bit drunk, so we decided not to go far. We started smoking on the street straight near my hostel and it seemed that on the next street some guys were doing the same.

I was thankful to Simon for one joint, but I wanted to find a regular supplier for all my vacation in New Delhi . So I begged Simon to share the name of his provider of weed with me. He declined it, because his friend didn't cooperate with the tourists, only with locals. I was persistent, so at the end of the evening and the couple of beers, he agreed to be the dealer of marijuana for me. All my goals connected with good rest were solved, thanks to Simon!

Weed turnaround rules in New Delhi, India

Everybody knows that cannabis with low THC and high CBD is widely used for the treatment, you need only the doctor's prescription. But the realization and keeping of non-medical cannabis is highly controlled by the government of India. For you it means that you can't obtain high-level weed in the store, like in Canada.

When I'm traveling, I'm always trying to make new friends. This time I did it on my first evening in New Delhi, I met Simon. He relocated to New Delhi two years ago. As I'm a lucky man - Simon was a good rasta guy and loved weed as much as I am. He shared a joint with me and some points about the local dealers. For the beginning he calmed me down by saying that despite the fact that cannabis is strictly controlled by law and prohibited in New Delhi - police are not so straight at this.

What if I get caught with weed in New Delhi?

In practice, as Simon said - if you are 18+ and carry less than 20 grams of weed or 10 grams of hash and do not smoke in public - you should not expect any arrest. As a maximum, cops will confiscate your stuff after they ensure you are not a dealer who delivers stuff.

There are some stories about occasional cops forcing people to give them a bribe after catching someone with weed, but such cases are rare. Usually cops do not touch foreign tourists who are spending their vacation or business trip in New Delhi and bring money to India.

How to get weed in New Delhi?

I did not need a dealer in New Delhi because I had Simon, anyway it was interesting for me how gears work in New Delhiin relation to cannabis.

High-level wholesale New Delhi dealers purchase weed and hash on the darknet websites. Usually these sites are about wholesale multi-kilo orders, but some also work with small amounts. So in fact this may be an option #1 for you - under the condition you know how to use darknet features of Tor browser and .onion sites + ready to wait 3-5 days for the delivery. If yes - you may find all the info about darknet websites on thehiddenwiki.com - darknet wikipedia.

If you are just having a short vacation or a trip to New Delhi - purchasing weed via wholesale darknet websites is not an option. Looking for dealers on the streets and in parks is still something you may do to find some weed in New Delhi, but more and more dealers are shifting to online orders done via messengers and payments in bitcoins instead of cash. This simply protects them from ever being caught by cops. Crypto payments are anonymous and delivery is done to selected location without any personal meetings, so both you and the dealer are secured from any possible consequences.

This was a surprise for me cause I am more old school and just “heard something about crypto”. While now all youngsters (who are usually a target group for cannabis dealers) have crypto wallets so dealers simply follow the trend. I think dealers are losing money anyway because not all clients know crypto, but Simon commented that nowadays if you do not use crypto - you 100% have a friend who uses it, so you may just send him money from card and he does crypto transaction for you. After that I remembered I also have such a friend, so I agreed with Simon.
