On my first evening in Ponce I met Steve who moved here a couple of years ago. I got lucky - he was one of the heavy weed smokers, so he agreed to share a joint with me and tell me some stories about local dealers. As he said from the very beginning - even though weed is prohibited in Ponce - cops are overall calm and relaxed in everything related to cannabis, this made me feel better.

What are the consequences of being caught with marijuana in Ponce ?

In reality, as Steve pointed out, if you're over 18 and possess fewer than 20 grams of cannabis or 10 grams of hashish and refrain from public consumption, you shouldn't anticipate any legal trouble. At most, law enforcement may seize your belongings once they confirm you're not involved in distribution.

Typically, law enforcement officers do not interfere with foreign tourists who are enjoying their vacation or conducting business trips in Ponce and contributing to the economy of Puerto Rico.

So where do smokers purchase weed in Ponce?

Despite the fact that I did not have any problems with weed in Ponce because of Steve, he told me how everything works (and not only with cannabis).

Usually high-level dealers purchase stuff on wholesale darknet websites. Theoretically you may also go through all the nightmare of using darknet websites to get your stuff delivered in several days or even weeks. I was a little bit shocked, because I got used to the idea that “cash rules the world”. Steve also commented that now if you do not know crypto - you have a friend who is keen on bitcoins and all that shit, so you may simply ask him to help and do a crypto transaction for you. And I really have such friends, so yep, agree.

Local attitude towards weed and cannabis in Ponce

Although only medical cannabis is allowed in Ponce, the locals are absolutely ok with the smokers. Local dealers have big cash from the students and tourists, so they are their weed target audiences in Ponce. You shouldn't allow yourself to smoke anywhere, for example in bars, but nobody is surprised if you get caught smoking weed in a secluded corner of the street.

One more interesting fact from my new friend Steve - even some cops in Ponce prefer smoking weed over drinking strong. So as I understood Ponce is a good place for smokers of marijuana because of the light atmosphere, but all the same the best rule is not to be caught with weed in Ponce 😉.

Steve shared with me a small joint of some unknown indica strain that evening, this was exactly what I needed. We were a little bit drunk and were smoking near my hotel directly on the street near trash containers, and it seems I saw other guys doing the same on the opposite side of the street.

One joint is good - but I needed weed for the whole period of my stay in Ponce , so asked Steve if he could share contacts of his cannabis dealer. The answer was negative, simply because his dealer did not accept new people. But as we became close after the joint - Steve agreed to become my dealer for the nearest days, so all my issues with weed were resolved, thanks to Steve!
