As Simon told - even local cops in Riga sometimes use cannabis. So in general we may conclude that the atmosphere in Riga is relaxed when we speak about cannabis. Just behave correctly and watch your back - and everything should be cool.

Generally, the local stance on cannabis is quite laid-back, so you might start feeling at ease in Riga after enjoying a single quality joint, and I can attest to this from my own experience. Simon graciously shared a wonderfully satisfying sativa joint with me, even though he wasn't sure about the specific strain. We were indulging outside a bar and noticed other individuals across the street doing the same 😁. It's safe to say that cannabis consumption is quite prevalent in Riga.

While medical CBD cannabis might be accessible through licensed dispensaries, it necessitates a doctor's prescription, and it's essential to note that CBD doesn't produce psychoactive effects.

While at a club, I had the opportunity to meet Simon, who relocated to Riga three years ago and is well-versed in the local drug culture. According to Simon, despite the legal prohibition of cannabis, law enforcement officers generally adopt a lenient attitude towards marijuana, with some even being cannabis enthusiasts themselves.

What if I get caught with weed in Riga?

In practice, as Simon said - if you are 18+ and carry less than 20 grams of weed or 10 grams of hash and do not smoke in public - you should not expect any arrest. As a maximum, cops will confiscate your stuff after they ensure you are not a dealer who delivers stuff.

There are some stories about occasional cops forcing people to give them a bribe after catching someone with weed, but such cases are rare. Usually cops do not touch foreign tourists who are spending their vacation or business trip in Riga and bring money to Latvia.

Points to find the weed in Riga

This advice from Simon got me thinking, and I realized I also have such a friend, so I followed his suggestion.

As I mentioned before, I was fortunate to meet Simon. If I were you, I would look for Telegram channels and avoid interacting with street dealers.

Yes, a lot of dealers sell both weed and hash, so hash is also popular and can be found in Riga. Not all dealers have it, but it is still rather popular.

What is the price for weed and hash in Riga?

Prices vary from dealer to dealer and usually depend on stuff quality and dealer’s greediness 😂From what I saw - super high quality weed may go up to $20 - $25 per 1 gram (while the more you buy - the lower price you get), and high quality hash was around $30-$35 per 1 gram. Have not purchased low quality weed in Riga so do not know the prices, but should be lower.
